Pasadena Healthy Parks Plan

Equity-Based Parks Master Planning

Land and Water Connections led an interdisciplinary team in developing an equity-based parks master plan for Pasadena, Texas. Pasadena is 70% Hispanic/Latinx and has a large proportion of socioeconomically vulnerable residents. We assembled a team of local community groups and health experts to help recommend park system improvements and designed a community engagement process that successfully reached large numbers of underserved Spanish-speaking residents. Land and Water Connections was responsible for all community meeting facilitation, survey design, data analysis, and technical writing.

The Plan won the 2021 Excellence in Sustainability Award from the American Planning Association.

“Amy is knowledgeable, organized, and a great collaborator who brings out the best from everyone. “

“I greatly enjoyed working with Amy on the Pasadena Healthy Parks Plan. Her ability to see the larger vision, break it into implementable steps, and keep everything on track was essential to the project’s success. She is also highly skilled at research and data analysis based on community input. This, coupled with the ability to communicate outcomes and recommendations comprehensively, resulted in a plan that the Pasadena Parks and Recreation Department can easily use to maximize their park system's effectiveness for years to come. She is a highly recommended leader and someone I’d love to work with again in the future.”
